Bologna – which is a land of passage and history -hides the remains of an important historical memory under the current fabric of the city: the Roman Theatre. And it is on these archaeological remains that the project wants to focus. The building that now embraces the site consists of three floors articulated with paths, open spaces, fenced spaces and double heights; the aim is to channel the flow of visitors into a path leading to the ruins, from which all other spaces then branch off. The theme of memory and temporal stratification takes shape in the new layout, becoming a golden “lace”, a symbol of sharing, purity and identity – which envelops all the building’s interior spaces – restoring a unified image to the intervention. The theme of the interior design aims at recreating “traditional” atmospheres through the archetype of the arch, an element common to traditional Roman architecture, reinterpreted in a contemporary key.
